Home-Start Edinburgh West and South West's services are mostly delivered by our wonderful team of volunteers. We have a small team of eight part-time staff who coordinate our volunteers, deliver some of our services and manage the day to day running of the scheme.

We have a dedicated team of trustees, who volunteer their time and expertise to oversee and give direction to the work that we do. Our team of trustees have a broad range of experience in the legal, financial and voluntary sector.

OUR TRUSTEES

Chair - Christina Early

Christina joined the board in September 2020 and accepted the position of Chair in November in 2020. Since leaving university, she has worked in the retail sector and is currently the head buyer for a Scottish retail company. She is currently studying part-time for an MSc in Health and Social Care and volunteers as a trained breastfeeding peer supporter. She is also a mum to two young children so it’s fair to say she likes to keep herself busy! Her life as a mum and her experiences as a volunteer contributed to her motivation to become a trustee with HSEW. She has a strong belief in the benefits of peer support and the positive impact this can have on the wellbeing of families. She is very excited to have the opportunity to continue to support families in a different way.

Vice Chair - Joanne McCalman

Joanna has worked in childcare for nearly 20 years. She started as a volunteer doing a creche training certificate through a charity, then worked for another charity, where she was on the parents committee and helping run the mother and babies group. She then worked in the creche and went onto the after school club, where she started out helping as a volunteer, and progressed to being the co-ordinator. Joanna then found myself working with the charity she works for now where she was a centre manager for a family support service, which also had a nursery, and now is a Family Support Lead having completed her BA in childhood practice recently. She has really enjoyed her career and looks forward to supporting and bringing her creativity to Home-Start EWSW. Previously before having her eldest and becoming a volunteer she worked in finance. She also has two children and a two year old granddaughter.

Duncan Findlater

Duncan currently splits his time between his two young daughters and his two young businesses (both very much in tandem with his wife Amy). A firm believer in the transformative power that giving kids the best possible start in life can have, Duncan joined Home Start in 2020 after hearing of the work the volunteers carried out with young families and in the hope that he can help in some way!

Emily Gaunt

Emily is an accountant with Standard Life Aberdeen. She has experience of what it is like to volunteer and an interest in helping HSEWSW develop our strategy in order to benefit the local community.

Lisa Mallinson

Lisa joined us as a trustee in 2020. She works in sustainable banking and has a responsibility for community programmes and a charitable campaign strategy. Living in Edinburgh with two young daughters, Lisa is very interested in the services we provide for families

Catherine Robertson

Catherine was welcomed as a Trustee in September 2019. She has many years experience in the Banking Sector and lots of life experience as a parent. Her desire is to ensure that families and children get the support they need when they need it. She is looking forward to the challenges of the role and interested in helping to promote the work of HSEW.

Jess Wade

Jess Wade has worked in the Scottish voluntary sector since 2004, when she graduated from the University of Edinburgh. She is currently Manager at Self Directed Support Scotland (SDSS), working with local, disabled people's Self Directed Support organisations throughout the country. She has previously worked in a range of roles in the sector, including fundraising, volunteering and campaigning and was appointed to the Board of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) in 2016. She has a Masters in Public Administration from the University of York and is a long time human rights activist. She lives in Slateford with her husband, two young children and their cat.
