At the end of 2019, we thought we would have a wee look at what we have been up to for the last 12 months and share it with you:

FAMILIES:  We ended the year with a couple of celebrations in South Queensferry and Tynecastle and it was great to see a number of parents and grandparents who either come to our groups or have support at home.  This year we have provided the usual mix of home visits, baby massage, Peep sessions and it’s been great to be part of the Save the Children Building Blocks programme as well.

VOLUNTEERS:  It's been a real privilege to welcome 9 new volunteers over the last few months and this takes our team numbers to 30.

CHANGES:  It has been a busy year with staff changes and a move to our new office.  We continue to be very grateful for the use of venues in Rannoch, South Queensferry, Kirkliston and Tynecastle and during the year we have also been made very welcome at Gate 55 so thank you to all our colleagues in those places.

STAFF:  We have welcomed new staff and have spent the last six months settling into working as a new team with dedicated roles to deliver parenting programmes.  Thank you so much to the Edinburgh Integrated Joint Board and the Health Improvement Fund for enabling this.

GOVERNANCE:  Home-Start Edinburgh West and South West could not exist without the people who agree to become Trustees and their support this year has been invaluable.  A big thank you to our Chair Jenny and her associates.  In September the quality of our work was reviewed by Home-Start UK using their Quality Assurance System and our work was identifies as High Quality Practice which was very reassuring.

FUNDING:  Our Parenting Coordinator posts are funded until 2022 and this is really encouraging.  We have just submitted a three-year grant application to Children and Families at the City of Edinburgh.  They have provided our core funding since the year 2000 and we will find out in March if we are successful.  There is increasing demand and competition for an ever decreasing pot so fingers crossed.  The latest news is that we have been awarded £8000 and this money will allow us to become a Peep training centre and there will be more news about this soon.  A big thanks to the staff at Peeple for their ongoing support.

TRAINING:  We have been very pleased to be able to offer our volunteers a training programme coordinated by Home Link Family Support and delighted that this term we were able to provide two of the sessions.  A big thanks to our volunteer Elaine for the digital input and to Social Security Scotland.  Four volunteers also took up the offer of Skills Network Training and are currently completing modules through the Northern College.  Six parents have just received their SCQFs on completion of Peep Progression Pathway portfolios and a big thanks to our volunteer Jo for making this a reality.

All the best from Margot, Heather, Nancy, Magda and Stefy
